A woman can do if she wants to (Interview writing)
Years ago women were oppressed by the people because of ideological argument and had no right to education and life. It’s a man’s world, they say. But, now, women play an important role not only in medical and engineering but also in the field of petroleum. Recently the scribe caught up with the Chief Executive of H&H PETROPVT.LTD. Sobia Ahmad Yar and discussed the role of women in this field and the current situation of petrol supply in the market of Pakistan. Here is the extract of the interview:
“Women choose those fields where they only interact with the other women. They don’t compete and stand for their rights. Only 12-15% of women choose this field because they think they can’t do it. They choose fields with less competition or no competition at all”. said Sobia Ahmad Yar. She explained that the women need to stand for their own rights and have to compete not only in the fields of medical or engineering but also in every field rather its construction business or petroleum to prove themselves in this patriarchal society.
On the question regarding the current supply of petrol in the market, she explained that the rates of petrol are increased in the market, the Oil and Gas Regulatory Authority (OGRA) has decided the rate of petrol 102.40 per liter. The H&H Petro earns decent profit but it depends on the volume of sales. According to the Chief Executive of H&H Petro, “product availability, credibility, consumer demand and punctuality are the four basic rules in this market”. With the mindset of patriarchal society, Mrs. Ahmad Yar proved herself in this field, she came in this field with only 4 clients, and within a year, Sobia Ahmad had proven herself that she is tough to compete with. Now, she has 36 clients and her four biggest petrol supply clients are “Hascol, Pakistan State Oil (PSO), GO and JINN Petroleum”.
She said as a mother it was difficult for her to make a decision about this field because she’d no idea about how to do business and had no experience in this field as well. She further said “After all the success I’ve achieved within a year, my first priority is my home and my children. Profit, loss, respect and contempt is in the hand of Allah Almighty. If someone disrespect you or make troubles on your way, the best way to deal with the trouble makers is to hire them for your company and if they don’t agree disregard that person because disdain can never end contempt”.
At the end of the interview she said, rather than experienced people as a part of the core team, she always preferred inexperienced youth. Because, youth is more energetic and handles work with a different mind-set. She also said, Pakistani women wanted to compete with the world they should start seeing things with different mind-set and have a determined perspective of life and should always be ready to be a part of tough competition because “what comes easy won’t last longer”.
